Minutes January 6, 2009
Jan 6, 2009 Board Meeting, 6:30, The Fredericksburg Brewing Company
Attended by Dona Drew, Rebecca Flynt, Cynthia Lively, Cynthia Hurayt, & Jim Fox
Dona asked each board member present what they thought their job was for the year.
-Cynthia H. replied with more field trips that lend themselves to photography & bringing in new members.
-Dona said of Jim, he was the club’s liaison & to help Larry with programs.
-Cynthia L. responded with keeping note/minutes & to get with Zach in getting them posted, as well as help keep up the bar in creative thinking.
-Dona felt it was her job to facilitate & meet needs of the organization.
-Rebecca wanted to help with publicity, keep the club on track/ not lose focus & as VP, help Dona as well as head up all committees
Cynthia H. brought up the hospital project- re: images were being hung in private offices instead of the halls Dona will get with Jim H. & talk with Mark Peterson about it
Dona asked Cynthia L. to get with Larry & find out if we can enter our year end pics digitally with the Austin Camera Club. Reminder: can enter 3 total, 2 categories: color & B/W, give to Larry by the end of the month
Dona spoke for Bob G.- who wants to push towards education & advertise programs. If we get the Perdenales Alliance grant $ it can be used for programs, advertising, & a LCD
Cynthia H. suggested we advertise programs in the paper & on our website in advance
Dona brought up the Gulf State Camera Club, do we still want to be involved- It was discussed & decided to drop it & concentrate more on entering professional magazine contests (i.e. TX Photo. Society, B/W, Camera Arts, Pop Photo, PS User, Wildlife -, to mention a few by Jim F.)
Cynthia H. will make another “monthly subject” form to hand out at our next meeting
Jim F. asked for thoughts on the non-theme monthly showing of images against the wall which then followed with some discussion on critiquing
Cynthia L. & Rebecca would like to see a program on a photographer that has influenced you in style & possibly present a short bio about that person
Which led to more discussion on programs, i.e. what program last year meant the most, might ask Carol Watson to give a program & if it were possible to combine more programs on the “how tos” followed by a field trip like the one we did on night photography around town
Jim Fox thought of doing a program on what makes an image a “gallery image”
Dona would like to see the PK library be at the gallery instead of Zack’s place of business
